About Iker Lecuona
Iker Lecuona Gascón, a Spanish motorcyclist, was born on January 6, 2000. He rides a CBR1000RR-R for Honda Racing Corporation and participates in the Superbike World Championship. He competed in MotoGP for two seasons, with KTM Tech3, from 2020 to 2021.
Lecuona made his Moto2 World Championship debut in 2016 by filling in for the injured Dominique Aegerter for two races with the CarXpert Interwetten team. Later in the season, he returned to the team as the rider's regular replacement. In a collision at Jerez during preseason testing, he sustained severe injuries to his back and collarbone, missing the first two races of the 2017 campaign. Lecuona scored his first points in a world championship race during that season at the second-to-last event in Malaysia. In his first Moto2 season, he placed 35th overall.
Iker Lecuona secured his first podium in a global championship in the Valencian Community motorcycle Grand Prix, the season's last race, coming in second behind teammate KTM rider Miguel Oliveira. Lecuona finished 12th in the championship standings with 10 more finishes in the point-scoring positions, six of which were Top 10 results. He placed second on the world championship podium in 2019. Lecuona came in third in the 2019 Thailand Motorcycle Grand Prix, behind Luca Marini and Brad Binder, two more KTM riders.
Lecuona made his MotoGP debut in 2019 when it was revealed that he will be a regular rider for Tech3 in the upcoming season. He took Miguel Oliveira's spot in the Tech3 KTM rider lineup for the Valencia season finale, as the latter was unable to compete due to surgery. Lecuona crashed and retired on lap 13 of 27, meaning he did not complete the race.
Following the unexpected departure of Johann Zarco from the KTM Factory Team, he inked a contract with Tech3 KTM for the 2020 season. Brad Binder, who was supposed to join Tech3, was moved to the factory team after Zarco's announcement, which left Miguel Oliveira's spot next to him open at the satellite team.
After losing his MotoGP seat, Iker Lecuona signed a contract to replace Álvaro Bautista on Honda's factory Superbike team for the 2022 Superbike World Championship. Lecuona was chosen to start for the Repsol Honda Team in the Spanish Grand Prix in instead of Marc Marquez. Lecuona was chosen to join the LCR Honda Castrol Team and take Álex Rins' seat for the Malaysian and Qatar Grands Prix.
