The front buckle closes the belt at your waist. A silver brass snap button holds it in place. At the back, a rawhide lace runs through the belt. You can pull it tighter or let it out, so the chaps sit snug over jeans or thicker pants. This makes the fit easy to change from day to day.
Yes. The hem is left raw, so it will not fray when you cut it. Put the chaps on with your riding boots. Sit on your bike or a chair, then mark the length you want. Cut a little at a time with sharp scissors. If you would like the length set for you, pick Custom Size and send your inseam.
Custom Size is one of the Size options for the Richmond chaps. Select it, check out, and note your order number. Next, open the measurement form and type in that number with your body measurements. You will enter height, waist, hip, external leg length and crotch to ground. The size chart shows the standard sizes. Your chaps are then made to order from those numbers.
The chaps are cut from cowhide leather that is 1.1-1.3 mm thick. Cowhide is leather from cattle. At this weight it is firm, yet still bends at the knee when you ride or walk. The natural finish lets the leather darken and soften a little with wear. For more styles, see these

After a ride, wipe off dust and bugs with a damp cloth. Let the chaps dry at room temperature, away from heaters and strong sun. Use a little leather conditioner a few times a year so the leather stays soft. Hang them by the belt, not folded. Wipe the zippers clean now and then so they keep moving well.
