Nubuck is cowhide leather that is sanded on the top side. The sanding gives it a soft, velvety feel, a bit like suede. Suede comes from the inner side of the hide, while nubuck uses the outer side, so it is a little firmer. On this coat the leather is 0.9-1.0 mm thick, which drapes well for a long coat. Nubuck marks more easily than smooth leather, so keep it away from oil and rain when you can.
Brush the nubuck now and then with a soft suede brush to lift the nap. If the coat gets wet, blot it with a dry towel and let it dry on a wide hanger at room heat. Keep it away from heaters and strong sun. Use a cleaner and spray made for nubuck, and test them on a hidden spot first. Do not use oily leather creams, as they can darken the finish.
