The kilt is then cut and hand-stitched to those sizes. The side laces give a little extra room to adjust the fit after it arrives. A distressed finish gives the leather a worn, vintage look from the start. The color varies a little across the hide, and small marks are part of the look. Do not machine wash it. Wipe off dust with a soft, dry cloth. If you spill something, blot it with a clean cloth and let the leather air dry away from heat.
